Republic of Liberia
12 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
In 2011, the National Telecommunications Policy was endorsed by the President of the Republic of Liberia, H.E. Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and members of the cabinet after a detailed presentation by the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Dr. Frederick B. Norkeh. The Policy detailed the establishment of a Chief Information Officer Regime that would facilitate the development of an e-government platform amongst other ICT related projects and/or programs.
The CIO Regime will be housed at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications as the lead government agency responsible for the expansion of ICT activities in Liberia. This concept generated from the involving nature of technology. The world over in the 21st Century has developed a new way of life that is centered on the use of technology. Therefore, the National ICT and Telecommunications Policy amongst other issues to be addressed prioritized the Millennium Development Goals objectives. The ICT Policy was also designed to seek ways through which ICT could be used as an effective tool in helping to realize the MDG Objective in the governance structure of the country.
Part V-0.5 of the National ICT/Telecommunications Policy under ICT Policy, Strategies and E-Function indicated that “the National ICT Policy shall stimulate the processes towards meeting the critical needs for investing in infrastructure to promote socio-economic development”.
